No Deal on Restaurant Reopening

There is still no deal on restaurant reopening. The 70 restaurant plaintiffs in litigation with New York have failed to reach terms with the State. Governor Cuomo’s heavy handed administration has not budged. The lawyer for the struggling businesses indicated that many will not survive. Half may close permanently within a month if they remain shut down. King Andrew is clearly to blame. He arbitrarily banned indoor dining without regard to the financial consequences. Research has shown that less than 2 percent of covid cases statewide arise from restaurants. None of the 70 establishments party to the lawsuit have been responsible for any infections. Relief is being pursued through the courts. The judge is expected to rule Friday on whether to reopen the endangered venues. We trust the judiciary will strike down Cuomo’s edict and restore democratic process to the Empire State.
