Governor Cuomo is throwing a bone to strapped restauranteurs. He now says that New York City establishments can reopen for indoor dining on Valentines Day. However seating will be limited to 25 percent of capacity. Once again too little too late. Embattled owners have been struggling ever since they were restricted to takeout and outdoor dining. Having limped along for almost a year, many will not survive financially. The irony is that Cuomo’s own research finds that less than 2 percent of covid cases originate in bars and restaurants. The great majority of transmissions occur at home gatherings. The tragedy is that so many businesses will not make it post pandemic. King Andrews edicts have compounded the suffering. The Legislature must reassert its constitutional authority and put an end to one man rule.
